Knowledge and Skill Base
I have over 23 years experience providing clinical and forensic assessment, treatment, consultation,
and expert testimony. My experience includes developing and managing a private practice, advertising,
establishing referral networks, organizing and providing national trainings, teaching at the graduate and
undergraduate level, and authoring books and other materials. I have been a consultant to several
Governors regarding sexual predator legislation and forensic treatment. In addition, I have served as a

CONSULTANT
Have been asked to consult with the offices of three Minnesota Governors on issues related to sexual
predators and civil commitment. Am a clinical and program consultant to Harvodes Bereavement/Loss
Center, Inc., in Minnesota.

TASK FORCES/STUDY GROUPS
Substance Abuse Study Group, CIGNA. This group was established to develop protocol for addressing
substance abuse intervention nationwide. As part of this group, I wrote and helped edit two
informational articles for CIGNA that are used nationally, one for providers and one for patients. These
articles addressed substance abuse intervention with special emphasis on the use of
psychopharmacological interventions, specifically the anti-craving medications Acamprosate (Campral)
and Naltrexone (ReVia). As part of this group I gathered research related to use of
psychopharmacological interventions in treating alcohol and drug abuse and wrote an article (pending
publication). This group met from 2005 to 2006.

Civil Commitment Study Group/Task Force. This group was established per legislative mandate to
examine issues involving sexual offenders who are committed as Sexually Dangerous Persons and/or
Sexual Psychopathic Personalities, and to make recommendations. This group examined issues
including the current system of treatment, commitment and confinement of these individuals; financial
costs associated with the current system; the advantages and disadvantages of alternatives to the
current system, including indeterminate sentencing and changes to the patterned sex offender law; how
other states have responded to these individuals; and confidentiality issues pertaining to statements
made by sex offenders while in treatment. This group met on twelve occasions from May to October
1998.

EXPERT TESTIMONY
Provided expert testimony concerning sex offenders, including civil commitment hearings the states of
